So, I managed to depress almost everyone who read my last post “Life Of A Manjiri Keskar- Another 6 months later… “. I am usually very unfair to my blogs and readers and write only in depressing times and ignore them during others. So I am writing today to (for the first time) not sound like a melodrama queen with worldly pains inflicted upon her (trying to gather sympathy) and give an update as to where I stand today. Here it goes…
For unfaithful and/or new readers, I pursued Master’s in Boulder, Colorado then got married and moved to DC. I had been jobless for a while (half a year, that is) and enjoyed being a housewife (for ~ 1.5 days). I was desperately seeking a job and for most part I got nothing (not even rejects, which made me feel even more rejected and dejected). The other calls that I got, I was NOT interested (Internship that involved answering phone calls and filing, you know what I mean). Finally one day my luck turned around and I was called for an internship interview. I was very very lucky (touch-wood) to get past half a dozen rounds of interviews and end up with an offer. I have been working there for about 5 months now and it certainly has been a good experience. According to Wikipedia, I am the person who manages “the process of designing and developing a device, assembly, or system such that it be produced as an item for sale through some production manufacturing process. It usually entails activity dealing with issues of cost, produce-ability, quality, performance, reliability, serviceability and user features.” In short, I am working as a person who catches bugs in softwares (even shorter, pest control). For the first couple of days, I spent time learning what is a bug and what is not. Then I spent a good month to get to my very first Bug. From there, it has been a big learning curve for me. Luckily, I have very very patient colleagues and everyone was readily helped me whenever I fumbled or messed up. Today, even though it hasn’t been too long, I know much more stuff about working in the “Industry”and what “Industry Experience” is all about.
So now, the Life is again very different from all the previous ones. Weeks still creep away one after the other, albeit in a more disciplined manner. Week beings with a regular “Monday Sulk” and then continues with getting up each day, cooking, going to work, working, coming back home, cooking and phew! That was a hectic day! Finally Friday arrives and I am more ecstatic about the weekend on Friday more than Saturday and Sunday combined! Weekend usually sees grocery shopping and either inviting someone home or getting invited (trying to fit into the social scene here) and voila, you have another Monday
As always, it feels good to get some money in the bank, to feel like your time is well spent. Overall, just a satisfaction that all these years of efforts have not gone in vain…
Speaking of which, I am now awaiting my Graduation and am so eagerly looking forward to the day when finally my 20-year tryst with Education will finally come to an end! (Sorry folks, I am aware most of you are still far from it, but you will also have this feeling around your Graduation time) and so, my life’s see-saw saga continues….until next time!
