About

At after-grad.com we provide you a glimpse of the life after graduation by asking graduates from a variety of fields to share their experiences

Today(December 28, 2007) I got a mail informing me about a photo shoot to commemorate the creation of 1 lakh employee numbers. Each of us working in Infosys is given an employee id. These ID’s are distributed serially. My own employee number is pretty close to 99K mark. I got my employee id in the first week of December . So what it means that in that in about 4weeks time Infosys has added anothek 1k employees(a vast majority of them would be trainees).

Food Court 1 and Cricket Ground

But this does not mean that Infosys has 1 lakh employees. What it means that the total number of number of employees Infosys has ever hired since its conception is 1 lakh. The actual strength of Infosys would be considerably lower than that.

The Photo Shoot
We were all requested to assemble on the cricket ground for the shoot at 12pm i.e during lunch break. The so called International Standards Cricket ground is situated near Food Court 1(FC1). Infosys seems to understand its employees well. So the security guards blocked the routes to other Food Courts(FC2 and FC3). Some lucky fellows who left early from the GEC escaped before the blockade could be setup.

On the cricket ground, 100000 was written with chalk in double lines. We were supposed to stand between these lines. A photographer was stationed on top of FC1. That was the whole photo shoot.

The weather in Mysore is quite fluctuating. In the short period that I have been here I have experienced rains, searing heat and chilly cold. This very morning itself was pretty cold. The entire campus was shrouded in fog and visibility was very poor. It seemed as if I was somewhere on an hill station. But the afternoon was a whole different scenario. I stood under the hot sun for around 2 minutes in one of the ‘0’s and then  escaped to FC2 which, for once, was pretty empty because of the blockade. Due to vast number of employees in the campus, It is very very rare that one doesn’t have to stand in lines to avail something in Mysore DC(Development Centre).
