According to a mail to our college TPO(Training and Placement Officer), we were supposed to get our Date Of Joining(DoJ) before May 31st 2007. If not, then, we were given an email id which we were supposed to contact. And as you know, I didn’t get my DoJ. So on June 11th, I sent them the following email:
Respected Sir,
This is Dhawal Shah from Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology(RGIT), Mumbai. We were supposed to receive our DOJ by May end. We are now into second week of June and still haven’t received a word from you. Could you please take a look and inform us about our DOJ.

I got the following reply in a weeks time on 18th June :
Hi,
We are in the process of finalizing the date of joining for the campus candidates. Your DoJ would be in the month of August/September 2007. You’ll receive the communication in 2-3 weeks.

So basically they gave us a period of 60 days in which our DoJ would lie. But with the benefit of hindsight, I can see that getting a DoJ in that period seemed too optimistic. August had arrived and I couldn’t wait longer. I fired them another email on 2nd August.
Well then, its been nearly 6 weeks since our last correspondence. Could you please tell me what does Infosys intends to do with us?
Thats it. No sir. No thanking you. No formalities. I went straight to the point. By then I was pretty frustrated. They took their time replying to the mail and on August 13th I got a reply from them.
Dear Dhawal,
Your likely Date of Joining would be in the month of October 2007. We’ll inform you shortly.

After this I didn’t even bother to mail them. I realized that it was of no use. Some of my friends who mailed them got the same reply. Instead of getting an actual answer we were getting stock replies. On the other hand, those who got into TCS from our college were given 28th November, 2007 as their DoJ. But they were informed pretty soon about it. Atleast they could plan how to use the available time instead of just waiting and doing nothing like I did.

Software companies want to hold on to freshers without paying them. They know that by October/November they will have open posititions because of attrition and will ask freshers to join. Also, they might have filled current positions from more high-profile colleges, where studetns are more likely to have alternate offers. Better keep looking for other companies and use your Infosys letter to improve your chances…

That is so damn real..I m living with the same fear of DOJ, is it just INFY or is it the same with the other indian s/w companies

Your DoJ has a lot to do with your college. The better your college the earlier your DoJ. Though Infosys and TCS gave us our DoJ in November, other colleges in Mumbai got their date a lot earlier. Infact one of my friend placed in TCS got his DOJ in end of June. He was informed just 15 days before his actual DoJ.

hi dhawal…..i m from SGSITS indore comp by BE this year only…..
even the same thing happened in our college….
Kanbay was the first company to recruit ….came on 5th may…..gave DOJ somewhere in NOV…and that too they informed in oct….
then the wipro guys…they got in sept but no comm was done to them…..
ICICI done the same thing…
there were only few companies like CSC,accenture which gave DOJ right at the time of selection…..
BUT the best was PATNI…. I got recruited in it..they gave us the flexibility to join….they asked for Date of availability….Since i had to give GRE so gave DOA as 10th aug( GRE 8th aug)… i again postponed it two times for TOEFL n other things…. still they will give joining in nov…
I liked this thing the most with patni….and they have started calling ppl right from may based on there DOA..

I believe this software companies r delaying DoJ because of the huge dent in their profits from appreciating rupee.By delaying they r assumin that at least some would go for other options.

i gave my interview 4 infy on 6 nov 2005,got da offer letter on 10th,n joind on 28th nov.may b da scenario has changd in last 2 yrs,bt i feel u r likely 2 get ur doj soon.

hey! i just left infy and i think i know the reason behind this stalling of the DOJ (especially for infy).
First of all, for all those who got their joining in Mysore, my heartiest congratulations, you just missed the awesome opportunity to get your joining in Trivandrum and Chennai (some of the most notorious of Infy DCs). Infy Mysore, for the past four months was facing an acute accommodation shortage. i got my joining for 28th august and till the end of the first week of october, we had to stay out in some of the most dingiest of hotels, mysore had to offer!
The reason behind all this is that, Mysore DC is expanding (with a new GEC coming up and new hostels with seven floors) and the contractor defaulted, leaving the facilities department in the lurch. so, they had to hold all incoming infoscions or divert them to Trivandrum and Chennai DCs.
And the new rooms aren’t much to talk about (except the LCD screen TVs which are awesome!). ACs don’t work in the new rooms and FCs get crowed in the morning and the new hostels are also far away from the GEC. But its an experience which i recommend to anybody. infosys training is the best in the world (tcs, wipro and accenture don’t stand anywhere near it)and it was for the training only that i joined it.
so, all the best, all of you. have fun at infy (i did) and if you come across my batchowner, don’t tell her you know me - officially, i am still on leave!!!!

Like you I am going to Infosys for training only(planning for MS in Fall 08)and like you I have to stay in a dingy hotel in mysore. They are gonna move us when there is place available in the campus.
About the LCD screens…are they bolted??
And also please tell me the name of the batchowner whom I am not supposed to tell. This is just for reference purposes. Promise. I wont squeal.

well, if you are going to infy for training, its easily the best compared to other companies which recruit in india. their training has got a certification of BS degree in Comp Sci, which means, once you get their training completion certificate, you can apply to American universities using it as your bachelor’s degree.
And the training is really good. but its kinda hectic. i had to sleep in the GEC every day, except on weekends, when i could sleep in my own hostel room. now i am used to sleeping fourteen hours a day!! the training is THAT effective!
and yeah, my batchowner is (or was) rituza khare. i took a one day’s leave on 1st of november (i made sure i got the full salary for october…he he he!!) and didn’t go back. i believe she left a lot of warnings on my PC and has threatened me with exit procedures!!

I m currently in my seventh sem ..i have been placed wid infy - 2009 batch ..Iam keen on pursuing MS in spring 10′ or fall 10′…but i dont want 2 miss on infy training as well…after d traing wat will happen if i break d service bond …@ Dhaval did u leave infy 4 MS 2008 rite…plz rite abt dis experience…
